LRRP.COM MEMBERS ONLY FAQ's
Okay, I give up . . . why is there a "members only" section in
the first place?
When this web site first started in 1996 we used to maintain
member contact information on the site so that when our
brothers found us (through this web site) they had a quick and
convenient way to reach out to others they had not had contact
with since the war. That worked great . . . but that was
1996.
Most people were appreciative of the opportunity to browse the
site, and were respectful of LRRP.COM member's (those that
served as LRP/LRRP/Ranger in the 25th Infantry Division during
the Vietnam War) privacy. If you're reading this than I
don't have to tell you that much of that has changed. It
got to a point where members were being spammed and the
guestbook was constantly bombarded with commercial
nonsense. That, in a nutshell, is the "why?"
Even while the contact information was moved to a secure area
(along with a new functioning bulletin board), it was felt that
we should attempt to continue hosting a public bulletin board
for those that just want to say hi (or thanks), or whatever so
long as we did not have to invest countless hours deleting
commercial announcements or political position(s). This
site was never intended for that--there are many more
appropriate websites for that.
The site remains, first for those that served with the
unit. It is also supposed to be a place for other Vets,
friends or family of those that were in some fashion affected
by the Vietnam War, and for those with no connection whatsoever
to view the pictures, videos, and read what words the members
are willing to share. Maybe this is not the most
politically correct website, but I think maybe that's the point
. . . what little you see here is exclusively provided by those
that served in battle or direct support thereof. We're
not out to make any particular statement, and while there may
certainly be some within this group who did heroic things,
you'll probably not hear much about that here because in many
ways these are private things and measured not by medals or
commendations but respect of one for another.
Enjoy your visit. You comments are welcome, and may peace
be with you.
